The Winter Flu Bug is Canceling Fab Friday

I’ve caught it. Ugh. Yuck. And because of it, there is nothing fabulous about this friday. So here’s this instead:

As I’m in the office, sick and upset because I’m not cuddled in bed with my book and a hot bowl of chicken noodle, an ad to, “6 Foods That Prevent Sickness” pops up in the corner of my browser. Now I’ve tried everything (besides patience): vitamin c tabs, vitamin c powder, zinc cold therapy, dayquil, ibuprofen, Jamba Juice, multivitamins and chicken noodle. Yet, I wake up again congested, weak and cranky. My last hope is to try cold-specific foods, more rest and finally giving into patience. Here’s some tips I’ve come across over the internet for everyone else suffering through this lovely cold and flu season.

Another mineral that can help stop a cold: Zinc. It plays a big role in immune system functioning and has been shown to stop the growth of microorganisms in the body, including some bacteria and viruses (and a virus is what causes colds). Both roast beef and whole grain bread are great sources of zinc; put them together, and you’ve got a powerful cold-fighting snack.

Recommended serving size: 2 ounces lean roast beef on 1 slice whole wheat bread

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not partial to this because of my red hair. Ginger really does allow your nose to stop pouring out and your throat to relax for a second. Fresh ginger is the best, but you can purchase ginger tea bags at your local grocery store. Try Frazer Farms, Sprouts or Henry’s.

Go To BED!

Sleeping allows your body to do what it does best, heal itself! Hide yourself with blankets and covers, turn the heater on and sweat it out while you sleep peacefully. If you’re too congested to sleep peacefully, flush out your system with this: ImageDon’t be fooled by how advertisementy that photo looks. I seriously swear by this stuff. Whether you have allergies, a cold or can’t breathe through your noes, this sinus rinse helps flush all that nasty colored goo out of your system. Caution: You will be grossed out!
